European Acclaim for Look Both Ways
The momentum for Australian feature film Look Both Ways continues, with the film being nominated today for Best Non-European Film at the European Film Awards.
Look Both Ways is nominated alongside such films as Good Night, and Good Luck, The Constant Gardener, Brokeback Mountain, Broken Flowers and Crash. Previous nominees for this award include Lost in Translation, The Motorcycle Diaries, Mystic River, Fahrenheit 9/11, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Finsing Nemo, Gladiator and American Beauty.
The European Film Academy was formed in 1989. The President is Wim Wenders, with board members including Dieter Kosslick (Director, Berlin Film Festival) and actors Sir Ben Kingsley and Brenda Blethyn. The only Australian film to win the award to date was Moulin Rouge in 2001.
The nomination arrives hot on the heels of Look Both Ways being awarded Best Film, Director, Actor, Editing and Screenplay at the Australian Film Critics Circle Awards. It has also been nominated for eleven AFI and seven IF Awards, and recently won the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Producer Bridget Ikin comments, 'The making of Look Both Ways has been a remarkable pleasure, and now to realise that the film is being received so warmly all over the world is wonderful news.'
Says Writer/Director Sarah Watt, 'It is wonderful to have this validation that the themes in the film translate across cultures, and that a low budget, very Australian film is in this company.'
Look Both Ways has grossed over $2.5m at the Australian box office to date, and continues to screen in cinemas nationally.
