Looking after mum - all ways
AUSSIE actor William McInnes has a special Mother's Day treat planned for his mum. The famous Redcliffe expat, who's back on the peninsula this week, is taking the feisty Iris to the trots and then on to the Redcliffe RSL for tea.
What a thoughtful boy.
McInnes is also back in town to perform official guest duties at Sunday's National Seniors Foundation Mother's Day Champagne Brunch at the Gabba. He's not exactly sure what he's meant to do at this gig, but those attending will be pleased to hear he's ruled out biting the heads off live doves.
"I'll just go there and have a chat,'' he told Qconfidential. "I'll be on my best behaviour. I won't be biting the heads off doves or anything.''
And he's not phased about being the new patron of the blue rinse set. "That's my fan base,'' McInnes joked.
"I'm not sure if I'll take mum on Sunday. We've got plans. I'm taking her to the trots for Mother's Day.''
He has also fixed Iris's front gate.
McInnes, who's been busy finishing a play in Melbourne and writing a book about cricketers, is about to return to Melbourne to begin filming on a new movie about former Australian prime minister John Curtin. In between that, he's hoping to fit in a trip to the Daintree with his family and then find some time to "pop back'' to "the 'Cliffe'' for the annual show.
He's looking forward to it and confesses that on more than one occasion he's entered the cooking, arts and crafts contests using a pseudonym.
"Merv Cook (a former Redcliffe footballer) won second prize with an old watering can stuffed with fake flowers,'' he confesses. "I might do a loaf of bread or something this year.''
