McInnes to feature in celeb soccer match
Thursday Jun 28 12:36 AEST

Two-time Logie award-winning actor William McInnes will feature in a celebrity soccer match at Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.

McInnes, a Queenslander who made his name in TV series Blue Heelers and Seachange, will play in the Queensland Roars Against Racism match.

The celebrity match will be the opener to A-League team Queensland Roar's battle with South Africa's Supersport United for the Translink Cup.

McInnes said it was easy to be involved in the campaign because he supported the anti-racism messages.

"I am glad I can use any position or profile I might have for campaigns that ultimately aim to better the community as a whole," he said.

"Racism is not something we should turn our backs on and if we all play our part in trying to preventing negative attitudes, it will make the world a better place."

Others in the celebrity team include league star Steve Renouf and athlete Tatiana Grigorieva.
The Queensland Roars Against Racism campaign, launched by Premier Peter Beattie in Johannesburg in March, is a three-year partnership between the government and Queensland Roar FC.

It will include a range of events and activities to challenge racist attitudes.
